Bellie report – @ Victoria Shamrocks – June 17th, 2012
As the two teams tied for fourth spot in the Western Lacrosse Association standings going into last night’s game, it was a huge one between the Bellies and the Victoria Shamrocks. Unfortunately for the Bellies, their 9-7 loss made for a long trip home.
Scoring for the Salmonbellies was a largely Gajic affair. Alex opened the scoring at the five minute mark of the first period then added two more goals in the third, while brother Ilija also had two. Corbyn Tao was the only other Bellie scorer with two goals of his own.
On 46 shots, starting goaltender, Tyler Richards made 28 saves. At the other end of the floor, the Bellies took 44 shots in sixty minutes.
Alex Gajic was named the WLA’s third star of the game.
The loss leaves the Bellies below .500 with a record of 7 wins and 8 losses. With only three games left in the season, they are desperately clinging to their play-offs hopes, but will need to settle for nothing less than a win every night to keep them alive. Tomorrow night, the Bellies will host the Nanaimo Timbermen at Queen’s Park Arena. The remaining games are at home vs. the Coquitlam Adanacs on July 26th and on the road vs. the Maple Ridge Burrards on July 19th. Please note the early start tomorrow – game time is 7pm.
