5 Minutes in the Box: Jordan McBride
For a kid born and raised in New Westminster, being able to wear Salmonbellies colours for his entire lacrosse life is a very special thing.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play my whole career in New West,” says Jordan McBride. “I started playing mini-tyke when I was four years old and now, as a senior, I’m still a Bellie.”

It doesn’t end with just wearing the jersey for this WLA sophomore player. In 2008, his first season in the league, McBride finished first on the team and second in the league in scoring with 24 goals and 50 assists. He was also given a spot on the First All-Star team.

“Jordan really filled a hole for us last year,” Ken Thomas, assistant coach to the senior Salmonbellies noted of McBride’s rookie season. “We hope he continues to get bigger and stronger and builds on the kind of solid play we saw from him last year.”

Currently, McBride is living on Long Island, while he attends Stony Brook University on a lacrosse scholarship. Showing a similar impact on his team there as he has on the Bellies, he is currently leading the Seawolves in scoring and has already climbed as high as 16th in the school all time scoring list. In March, McBride was named Stony Brook’s SimplexGrinnell Athlete of the Week. He is majoring in Business Marketing with a minor in Journalism.

His great success away from home doesn’t mean he doesn’t miss his summer club and all that it entails. He says that he sees far more talent in the WLA and that he enjoys being able to look up at his teammates when he is playing here on the west coast.

“Queens Park Arena is one of my favourite places in the world,” he says. “I miss playing on the wooden floor and being able to wear the jersey that so many great players wore is a great opportunity. I love representing New West.”
