Salmonbellies Send Burrards Golfing
by Kyle Richardson

Maple Ridge – New Westminster Salmonbellies bounced the Maple Ridge Burrards form the post season this year with a 13-12 win on the road , yesterday afternoon. Burrards can do no better than 5th place again this year, as they are now mathematically out of the 2009 Postseason. The Bellies jumped all over the Burrards taking an 8-2 lead into the dressing room, after Scott Stewart made it 9-2, early in the second, things got interesting. Ridge rattled 7 straight goals off to knot the game at 9-9 after two periods. This after New West retaliated to an earlier Stick measurement call on Tyler Richards which backfired, by making a call of their own on Ridge keeper Ron Schibild’s leg pad. They were deemed to be illegal and Schibs was tossed from the game for illegal equipment. What’s that old saying, an “eye for and eye”, however it seemed to rally the Burrards for a short period of time.
Third period New West and Maple Ridge traded early goals until the Bellies rattled 2 quick goals in late, prior to the Burrards Codron scoring on a rare Penalty Shot with 1:02 left on the game clock.
New Westminster now sits in a tie for first place with an 11-3-2 record good for 24 points, undefeated in the last 8 games, the Shmarocks have a 12- 3 record for 24 points as well with one game in hand on the Sr Bellies.
