| Bellies Sweep Rocks and go 10 - 1 on the Season |
| In front of a raucous crowd of 1500 Bellies supporters the first place Salmonbellies knocked off the defending WLA Champions 15-12 to push their league leading totals to 10 wins 1 loss, while the Shamrocks have slipped to a dismal 3-8-1 record on the verge of possibly being eliminated from post season play for the first time in over a decade.
Bellies were lead by Sophomore Star Jordan Hall with (1G, 5A) wily veteran Chris Gill (3G, 3A) while Rookie sensation Ilija Gajic added (3G, 2A), Athan Iannucci put up an identical (3G, 2A), and Peter Morgan added the hat trick. The Rocks pulled out all the tricks of the trade to try and steal 2 points from historic Queens Park Arena, but the Bellies defence lead by Matt Disher stood tall when it counted to Salt away the victory outscoring the men in green 6- 3 in the 3rd. There were times in the game when the Bellie Faithful had thought they were at the Canadian National Diving competition with some remarkable Full Gainers and a couple of 1/2 pipes with a twist being pulled off by the men in green shorts. One old timer mentioned to the Bellies reporter, if he wanted to watch acting he would have bought tickets to " Bard on the Beach" at Stanley Park's Shakespeare Festival. Coach Bob Salt was full of praise for his young stallions after the game saying, " We started very slow, made some mental mistakes early, but we regrouped and we were mentally and physically sharp in the 3rd period when we had to be. Dish stood on his head late in the game and our Penalty killers did the job , and ragged the crap out of the ball like there supposed to do." Bellies now travel to the Hub City Nanaimo to meet the 4th place Timbermen on Saturday July 7th , before the return match with the Orange clad timbers next Thursday July 12th at Queens Park Arena game time 7:45 pm |
