| Bellies Knock off Timbermen in Nanaimo |
The New Westminster Salmonbellies rolled on through the Hub city of Nanaimo knocking off the Orange clad Timbermen 15-12 infront of 500 T-Men Supporters. Bellies held period leadsof 2-1, 7-3 and 12-5 and were lead by a trio of veterans with Ianuccii at( 2G ,6A) Gill (4G 1A) and Peter Morgan ( 1G, 3A). The Bellies had great support on the road from a boisterous group of New Westminster Minor Lacrosse Girls teams who were in Nanaimo for the BC Girls Championships. Reminscent of the Vaunted Minnesota Vikings Defensive line of the 1960"s and early 70's nicknamed the "Purple People Eaters", the Bellies Defense has it's own lacrosse version in 2007. Instead of Carle Eller, Alan Page, Jim Marshall and Gary Larsen the Bellies put out the likes of Dave Morgan, Ian Hawksbee, Nenad Gajic and Shayne Bennett to name a few, the Bellies continue to punish teams with tenacious hits, loose ball control and a smothering defensive style. Coupled with a league leading G.A..A aveargae of 8.61 per game by veteran goaltending of Matt Disher the Purple Gang of the 60's/70's would be tipping there hats to this hard working group of lacrosse players from New Westminster. Bellies play host to the same T-men for their next game Thursday July 12th at Historic Queens Park Arena at 7:45pm. |
