After suffering their first loss at home since the 2007 play-offs to Victoria on Thursday night, the Bellies’ record has fallen to 2-1 on the season.

The Bellies trailed the Shamrocks 7-4 at the first intermission, but managed to climb back to close the second period with both teams tied at 7 goals a piece. The team was outscored 4-1 in the third to finish the game down 13-8.

Valued veteran Chris Gill returned to the line up for the first time in the 2009 season and provided the team with one goal, while rookies Martin Cummings and Sean Robinson both netted their first goals in the WLA. Cummings had three points on the night, including two goals, while Robinson tied the game up at two at the midway point of the first period. Also scoring for the Bellies were Brandon MacNeil, Jamie Floris, Tyler Crompton and Jordan McBride with one goal each.

Goalie Matt Roik faced 42 shots in his second start of the season, while the team got off 46 shots of their own on net.

Floris was chosen as the WLA’s second star of the game after adding to his one goal another three points in assists.

The Bellies now travel to Nanaimo to face the winless Timbermen on Saturday, May 30 at 7pm.
