Bellies Recognize Fulton, Treasurer, Downey - 125 years of Service to the Club

In a historic first for the New Westminster Salmonbellies, three longtime volunteers were awarded lifetime memberships on Thursday evening (July 17, 2025) during the game against the Maple Ridge Burrards at Queen’s Park Arena.

The club took a moment at centre floor to recognize Pat Downey, Bernie Treasurer, and Jack Fulton Sr. — whose combined 125 years of service have left an indelible mark on the Salmonbellies’ legacy.

Pat Downey was honoured for over 20 years of leadership behind the scenes on game days. From coordinating entertainment and managing the beer garden to overseeing security and fan experience, Downey’s retirement this year marks the end of an era. Finally, after two decades of toiling in the lobby and storage rooms of QPA, she can watch the team she helped to build.

Bernie Treasurer, true to his name, has served as the club’s treasurer for more than 30 years. His accounting expertise has been instrumental in keeping the club financially stable, navigating permits, licenses and grants, and ensuring the Salmonbellies remained both operational and affordable for fans.

Jack Fulton Sr., now approaching 70 years of involvement with the club, has worn nearly every hat: coach, general manager, event organizer, and chief sponsor liaison. Even in his late 90s, Jack remains a relentless ambassador for the team, helping sustain the Salmonbellies through decades of community support and leadership.

“This is the first time in our 137-year history that we’ve awarded lifetime memberships,” said club President and GM Ray Porcellato. “We are proud to recognize Pat, Bernie, and Jack,  three people who truly define what it means to be a Salmonbellie."

Porcellato presented all three with Lifetime Membership Certificates and the ceremony concluded with a standing ovation and a ceremonial face-off.

"Our philosophy is that you don't just need a deep team, but a deep organization," added Vice President, Paul Horn. "These three truly demonstrate that the Bellies are a community-owned team."
