GAME REPORT: Salmonbellies Comeback Against T-Men Falls Short

On a wet and unusually chilly June night, the New Westminster Salmonbellies fell behind early and it made all the difference.

After a strong start, the Bellies allowed the Timbermen to go on a 4-goal run over a 4-minute span in the first.  They ended the period down 6-2.

They came out stronger in the second period and outscored Nanaimo 5-4, but  they could not catch up.

New Westminster got within one in the third, thanks to spectacular plays by Justin Salt, Haiden Dickson and Jordan McBride, but Nanaimo turned the tables late, and the four goal gap created in the first frame remained the difference after 60 minutes.

The final score was Nanaimo Timberman 15 - New West Salmonbellies 11. Jordan McBride led the team with 5 goals and 2 assists and was named the Stonehaus Realty Player of the Game. Haiden Dickson had 2 goals and 2 assists and Justin Salt chipped in with two incredible transition goals.  Jason Jones and Ilija Gajic each had singles. Zach Higgins made 50 saves on 66 shots.

The Salmonbellies have no time to dwell on the loss as they are on the road Friday night, June 10th, when they pay a visit to Bill Copeland Arena and the Burnaby Lakers. Game time is 7:30.

Our next home game is next Thursday (June 16) when they Victoria Shamrocks visit Queens Park Arena.  Faceoff is 7 pm and tickets can be bought here.
