Trade News: Cornwall Brothers Acquired.

by Paul Horn

The WLA has approved a trade between the Bellies and the Coquitlam Adanacs that will bring both Jeff and Travis Cornwall to New West in exchange for a second round pick in the 2023 junior draft, plus third and fourth picks in 2024.

Jeff (30) is returning to the Bellies where he played three seasons as a standout defender and transition player from 2014-16.  Older brother Travis (32) is also known as a defensive stalwart.  He last suited up for the Maple Ridge Burrards in 2019.

Both brothers have extensive NLL experience.  Jeff (6'3", 220, shoots left) played 17 games for the Saskatchewan Rush in the 2021-22 season, scoring 7 times, picking 65 loose balls and causing 19 turnovers.  Meanwhile, Travis (6'2", 215, shoots left) played 14 games for the Panther City Lacrosse Club, scoring three times,  picking up 31 loosies and 7 CTO's along the way.

GM Ray Porcellato said, "I have been a big fan of both of these guys for a very long time. They are big, strong, fast and extremely intelligent players. They will play key roles on our defence for the rest of their careers."

This trade is just the latest in a series of moves made by GM Ray Porcellato and Asst GM John Richardson as they gear up for 2022's return to WLA lacrosse.  The team recently acquired star goaltender, Zach Higgins, from the Brooklin Lacrosse Club, as well as a slew of defensive talent on draft night.  In the past two junior drafts, the team has also bolstered its offensive side, adding Will Malcom and Haiden Dickson to an already potent offence.
