Will Malcom Leads WLA in Four Offensive Stats

by Salmonbellies Lacrosse

This just in: Will Malcom is something special.

With 3 games left in the Bellies season, he is leading the league in almost every offensive category - including goals, points, assists and points per game - and there's a very good chance he won't be caught.

At 94 points, Malcom is currently 33 points ahead of Chase Scanlan, Jacob Dunbar and Zach Manns, all of whom are tied for second at 61.  Similarly, his 49 goals have him 15 ahead of his closest competitor, Burnaby's Ben McDonald.

The race is a little tighter in the assist column, with Coquitlam's Tyler Kirkby just 3 below Malcom's total of 45, but Malcom has 3 games remaining, while Kirkby has 2.

Finally, Malcom's Points per Game stat is nearly a full point ahead of Victoria star, Jesse King.  King is at 5.4 ppg compared to Malcom's 6.3 ppg.  Both teams have 3 games left, including the regular season finale in New Westminster on August 1. That Malcom - King showdown could prove to be quite the game-within-the-game. Malcom has played all 15 games for the Bellies this year and has been a steady hand.  He has a total of 9 goals and 8 assists in two games against the Rocks this year.  King has only played 10 games in 2024, and just one against New West where he had 1 goal and 2 helpers.

When it comes to special teams, Malcom is tied (with King) for second at 12 goals, 1 behind Nanaimo sensation Taggart Clark.  Both teams have 3 games remaining, so Malcom could conceivably end up ahead in a fifth offensive category.

In a season where the team standings have never been more close, the MVP race seems much more clear.  Malcom's bio says he stands 5'11", but his performance on the floor puts him head and shoulders above the rest.
